For allowing us to use this picture our thanks go to photographer Michael Ridley Thomas and the owner of the painting who lives in Norfolk. The owner is a descendant of John Thomas of Ardmillan's brother Edward, who had an ironmongery business in The Cross, Oswestry called Edward Thomas & Co Ltd, which was still in business in 1960.
